The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has convicted and sentenced Prophet Ajiboye Olayinka, General Overseer of a church in Ilorin, to life imprisonment for the rape of three underage female congregants.
The court also sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment for carrying out illegal abortions on several pregnancies resulting from the sexual abuse of his victims.
Prophet Olayinka faced an eight-count charge that included criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion, and unlawful possession of firearms. The charges were brought under the Penal Code, the Robbery and Firearms Act, and the Kwara State Child Rights Law.
During the trial, the prosecution called 12 witnesses. The victims (particularly PW3, PW4, and PW5) testified that the defendant applied anointing oil to their private parts before forcefully having sexual intercourse with them inside the church mission house. They further stated that he made them swear an oath of secrecy on the Bible, threatening to kill them if they disclosed the incidents.
After hearing the defence, the court, presided over by Honourable Justice H.A. Gegele, ruled on 11th February, 2026 (or shortly after), that the prosecution successfully proved the charges of rape of minors and illegal abortions. However, the judge discharged and acquitted the defendant on the charge of bigamy.
Justice Gegele described the convict as “a pedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be deprecated by all and sundry in society.” The court also ordered the forfeiture of a pump-action gun recovered from the defendant to the Federal Government.
