In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mr. Kola Olabisi, and obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, the APC claimed the video featured a PDP stalwart suggesting the bombing of the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to Olabisi, the individual in the video expressed fear about the likely outcome of the 2026 governorship poll, fearing it may not favour the PDP, the ruling party in the state.
The statement quoted the PDP chieftain as saying, “It is the example of what the APC did in Edo State last week that we should replicate in Osun. If necessary, a covert plan should be made to station bomb-laced helicopters in Delta State to target the INEC office, where top officials, including the Resident Electoral Commissioner, the AIG, and Returning Officers, would be present.”
The speaker also mentioned that the same violent strategy had been suggested during the 2022 Osun elections but was unnecessary as the PDP won. He warned that if the APC reclaimed power in 2026, the PDP might not regain control of the state.
The chieftain added, “We must be prepared to kill close to 200 people, including key INEC officials, to disrupt the process and prevent the announcement of any results. This will draw international attention, especially from the United Nations.”
Olabisi expressed shock that, days after the video surfaced, neither Governor Adeleke nor the PDP leadership in the state had condemned the comments. He suggested this silence made them complicit in the alleged plot.
He further urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter thoroughly to prevent potential bloodshed during the 2026 election.
Olabisi remarked, “Governor Adeleke and his party must understand that no champion is permanent. If the PDP loses in 2026, just as the APC did in 2022, the heavens will not fall. Security agencies must act swiftly to prevent any act of violence.”
In response, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, threatened legal action against Olabisi.
Rasheed stated, “The allegations are irresponsible and unfounded. Governor Adeleke has instructed his legal team to review the situation and demand a retraction. If Mr. Olabisi fails to retract, he will face a N5 billion libel suit. This deliberate falsehood will not go unchallenged.”
Rasheed also accused the APC of making violent threats ahead of the 2026 elections, noting that the party had been boasting on various media platforms about plans to rig the polls.
“As a populist and performing leader, Governor Adeleke remains unfazed by these rantings. The Osun PDP enjoys overwhelming support from the people and will continue to deter any electoral malpractice,” Rasheed concluded.
