A female SS3 student of Akoko Anglican Grammar School, Arigidi Akoko, in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly stabbing her male colleague to death.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred outside the school premises following an argument between the two after school hours.
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipupo, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, noting that the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“The suspect is with us and the matter has been with the CID and we shall begin the investigation,” he said.
During a media briefing on Thursday, the CP also paraded 12 other suspects at the command’s headquarters in Akure involved in various criminal activities, including murder, arson, stealing, and armed robbery.
He highlighted the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety in the state.
“The Ondo State Police Command resolute in its commitment to tackling crime and maintaining public order, have in the past weeks made significant strides in apprehending suspects involved in serious offences.
“These offences include but are not limited to murder, armed robbery, arson, and theft. As we share these updates, we emphasize the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in fostering a safer environment for all citizens,” he stated.
As Ondo State prepares for its upcoming governorship election, Oladipupo urged politicians to maintain peace, warning that the police would not tolerate any form of violence before, during, or after the polls.
“I want to categorically state that any form of intimidation or harassment will not be tolerated.
I urge all political figures, particularly those seeking office, to promote respect and cooperation among their supporters, as this will serve as an enabling ground for a peaceful exercise and, in general, a peaceful Ondo State for all,” Oladipupo appealed.
