Adeniyi isn’t the only actor who has expressed interest in being a president. In 2022, Yul Edochie expressed interest in running in the 2023 presidential election. Unfortunately, he withdrew from the election after deliberations with his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, because they lacked the structure to win the presidential election.
In the past two years, many Nollywood actors have delved into politics. The likes of Desmond Elliot, Hilda Dokubo, Caroline Danjuma, Funke Akindele, Tonto Dikeh, Banky W, Rita Daniels, and many others have delved into politics.
In 2022, Veteran Hilda Dokubo unveiled her political ambition as a member of the House of Representatives, Asalga Akulga federal constituency.
Caroline Hutchins was unveiled as the deputy governorship candidate for the African Action Congress AAC, Akwa Ibom. The ex-wife of billionaire Musa Danjuma vowed to serve and honor in loyalty and truth to Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.
Tonto Dikeh ran for election as the running mate for Governorship Candidate Tonte Ibraye of the African Democratic Congress, Rivers State. Unfortunately, the movie star stepped down days before the election.
Funke Akindele had also run for the seat of Deputy Governor, Lagos State, and had temporarily kept her acting career on hold. Unfortunately, she suffered a loss at the polling unit as her rival party, APC won the gubernatorial election.
Singer and actor Banky W had also contested for the seat of Eti-Osa Federal Constituency under the PDP Party. Unfortunately, he lost to the Labor Party’s candidate, Thaddeus Attah.
