Musa Chiroma, the Acting Registrar of the College for Legal Studies in Yola, Adamawa State has been ordered by the Chief Magistrate Court 3 to pay N1million in damages to Mrs. Fadimatu Musa, a married female lecturer he assaulted.
Following the payment, the court discharged Chiroma from the case.
In addition to the damages, the court required an extra N80,000 for prosecution costs, a written apology, and a commitment not to victimise or assault the complainant again.
Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi acknowledged the fulfilled conditions before striking out the case.
Chiroma was first arraigned on May 13, 2024, facing charges of assault, using criminal force to deter a public servant, and causing harm, in violation of sections 244 and 219 of the Penal Law 2018.
The incident occurred on April 15, 2024, when Chiroma slapped Fadimatu for stopping a student from taking an examination due to unpaid fees.
Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen had represented the prosecution, while S. N. Agaecheta defended Chiroma.
Mrs. Fatima Bello Raji, head of the Public Sector Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association Women Forum, was present to advocate for justice.
