A visiting United States Congressman Riley Moore, has raised deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Benue State, revealing that more than six hundred thousand Christians are currently displaced and living in various camps across the state.
During his visit, the lawmaker met with several victims who shared heartbreaking accounts of the violence that forced them from their homes. He said the stories he heard were so tragic that he would never forget them.
According to him, one of the women he spoke with recalled how armed attackers brutally murdered her husband and five children while she was forced to watch helplessly. She managed to escape with her unborn child by a stroke of luck.
Another woman recounted that her entire family was killed in front of her, while her baby was violently removed from her womb. A male survivor also described how his family was cut down before his eyes, leaving him with a permanently damaged arm.
The Congressman stressed that the situation in Benue has reached an alarming level, noting that more than six hundred thousand displaced Christians in the state alone are still unable to return to their ancestral communities. He added that no one should have to live in fear of violent attacks or targeted killings.
He called for urgent attention to the plight of these communities, insisting that the victims deserve safety, justice and the freedom to live peacefully in their homeland.
