Nigeria has recorded a major milestone in fuel retail innovation as A.A. Rano Nigeria Limited unveiled the country’s first fully automated and unmanned fuel stations designed to operate round the clock.
The initiative, led by oil entrepreneur Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, introduces fuel stations that function without on site attendants while offering 24-hour service, digital payment options and SmartPump technology.
The project is being rolled out through a partnership with Petrosoft Limited, a Nigerian technology firm known for developing management and automation solutions for the oil and gas sector.
Under the agreement, Petrosoft will deploy its automated fueling systems across more than two hundred A.A. Rano retail outlets nationwide, marking one of the largest technology driven upgrades in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry.
In a statement released on Tuesday January 6 2026, A.A. Rano announced that the first set of unmanned stations is expected to begin operations later this month. Customers will be able to refuel, make contactless payments and complete transactions independently.
The company said the technology is aimed at cutting losses, boosting operational transparency and assuring customers that they receive accurate fuel volumes for every purchase.
Petrosoft Chief Executive Officer Dr Joshua Denila described the project as proof that locally developed technology can address long standing challenges in Nigeria’s fuel retail market. He said the systems are designed to meet international standards while improving efficiency for both individual stations and large scale fueling operations.
