Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has pledged total support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, assuring that the vote in the state will be an easy victory for the president.
Fubara made the statement on Friday during the flag off of the Rivers airport bypass project. The governor, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, said he had fully registered with the ruling party and now holds membership card number zero zero one.
According to him, his move to the APC is backed by complete commitment. He told attendees that the best way to show appreciation to President Tinubu is to ensure that Rivers State delivers massive support during the next general election.
Fubara formally joined the APC on December 9, shortly after fifteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including the speaker, Martin Amaewhule, also moved to the ruling party.
His comments come at a time when political tensions in the state have resurfaced. On Thursday, the Rivers assembly accused the governor of carrying out spending without approval and awarding contracts to his close associates. The allegation emerged barely a day after Fubara dismissed reports of ongoing conflict between him and the lawmakers, insisting that claims of avoiding engagement were completely false.
The governor maintained that he had made several attempts to meet with the assembly leadership since his reinstatement in September, but no meeting had been arranged. However, Speaker Amaewhule refuted this, saying that the lawmakers met with the governor in September following the intervention of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. He further claimed that Fubara failed to honour the resolutions reached during that meeting.
