Tragedy struck in the Fadikpe area of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Niger State, on Sunday night, as a commercial bank driver, Mohammed Abolore, was fatally stabbed while assisting local vigilantes in a security operation.
According to the Niger State Police Command, the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. after the vigilante group received reports of suspected thugs allegedly smoking cannabis in the Rafi axis of the community. While waiting for police backup, the vigilantes mobilized to confront the suspects.
Abolore, a resident of Fadikpe, volunteered to support the vigilante team during the operation. In the course of the intervention, he was attacked and stabbed with a pair of scissors by one of the suspects, identified as Nura Buhari, who fled the scene immediately after the assault.
The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was later pronounced dead.
In the aftermath, police arrested another suspect, Abdullahi Rabiu, who is currently assisting with investigations and efforts to apprehend additional culprits.
Reacting to the incident, the head of the Fadikpe community, Danladi Jibrin, condemned the act and confirmed the community’s commitment to working with security agencies to ensure the attackers face justice.
Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Danmamman, extended his condolences to Abolore’s family and assured the public of a thorough investigation to bring all responsible parties to justice.
