The District Head of Manguna in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Alo Raymond, has revealed that the assailants behind recent deadly attacks on communities in the area are known individuals.
Raymond made the disclosure during a peace meeting convened in Bokkos by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.
According to him, the attackers did not conceal their identities during the rampage and were recognized by residents as familiar faces from the region.
“These attackers are not strangers. They didn’t cover their faces while committing these crimes — we know who they are,” Raymond stated. “We have submitted their names to security agencies and are hopeful that the necessary actions will be taken.”
It was reported that on April 2, gunmen launched coordinated attacks on several communities, including Hurti, Josho, Daffo, and Manguna, killing over 50 people, destroying more than 300 homes, and displacing over 1,000 residents.
A week earlier, on March 27, ten mourners were killed during an overnight wake in a separate attack.
Raymond alleged that the repeated violence is part of a broader plan to forcefully seize ancestral lands. He appealed for the urgent deployment of more security forces to protect the communities.
“Our people will not abandon their land. We will remain and resist any attempt to take it from us,” he affirmed.
