Super Eagles players and members of the technical crew have reportedly declined to travel to Marrakech ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations quarter final clash with Algeria over unpaid bonuses.
The development was disclosed by BBC Africa football correspondent Oluwashina Okeleji, who is currently in Morocco covering the tournament.
Nigeria are scheduled to face Algeria on Saturday evening in the last eight of the 2025 AFCON. However, preparations for the encounter have been disrupted due to outstanding financial entitlements owed to the team.
It was gathered that the players have not received bonuses for the four matches they have played so far at the tournament. The Super Eagles recorded wins against Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda during the group stage before securing a dominant 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16.
Sources say the players and coaching staff have decided to suspend all activities, including travel and training, until the matter is resolved.
The situation has raised concerns ahead of the crucial quarter final fixture, with football fans anxiously awaiting a resolution from the authorities.
