Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State have formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was made at a high level party stakeholders meeting held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa and convened by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri. The motion backing Tinubu’s re election was proposed by the senator representing Bayelsa Central, Dr Konbowei Benson, and seconded by former deputy governor and ex Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Peremobowei Ebebi.
The meeting drew top party leaders, including the chairman of the APC caretaker committee in the state, Dr Dennis Otiotio; Senator Benson Agadaga of Bayelsa East; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr Sam Ogbuku; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare; and South South ex officio member of the APC National Working Committee, Godbless Diriware.
It marked the first expanded APC gathering chaired by Governor Diri since he joined the party in October 2025. Speaking at the event, the governor expressed satisfaction with the unity within the party, saying members had resolved to work collectively to secure Tinubu’s re election.
Diri urged party members to embrace reconciliation, humility and internal harmony, warning against bitterness and divisive politics. He also called for discipline and consultation within the party, advising those nursing political ambitions for the next election cycle to exercise patience.
He appreciated long standing APC members for warmly receiving him and other defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party, describing the reception as exceptional.
Meanwhile, former Niger Delta militant leader and activist, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has also pledged support for President Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 polls.
Asari Dokubo, now a paramount ruler in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, made the pledge during a courtesy visit by Wike to his residence. He said Wike had supported him during difficult periods of his life and vowed to reciprocate the gesture.
Wike explained that the visit formed part of efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re election and to engage local leaders on the political direction of his support base.
In a related development, the Rivers Elders Council has also endorsed Tinubu for a second term under the Renewed Hope Family initiative championed by Wike. The endorsement was announced by the council’s chairman, Ferdinand Alabraba, during Wike’s thank you visit to Akuku Toru Local Government Area.
