A Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu Ogun State has granted bail to Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode the driver of the Lexus sports utility vehicle involved in the fatal road crash that affected former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
Kayode was arraigned on Friday by the police on a four count charge relating to the accident. The charges include dangerous driving causing death reckless and negligent driving driving without due care and attention and driving without a valid national driver licence.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties. He was however remanded in a correctional facility pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
Confirming the development Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi said the case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026 for commencement of trial.
The incident occurred last Monday when the Lexus SUV conveying Anthony Joshua and two of his close associates collided with a stationary truck around the Sinoma area near Sagamu.
Joshua and three other occupants were reportedly travelling from Lagos to Sagamu when the crash occurred. While the former boxing champion sustained minor injuries and survived the accident two of his close associates lost their lives.
The victims were identified as Kevin Latif Ayodele Joshua personal trainer and Sina Ghami his long time friend and strength and conditioning coach.
Preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps attributed the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking. However the Ogun State Police Command stated that a tyre burst caused the accident.
Anthony Joshua was later discharged from Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi after receiving treatment for his injuries. Following his discharge the driver of the vehicle was arrested and subsequently charged to court.
