President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm new chief executives for two key petroleum sector regulators following the exit of their current leadership.
The request was conveyed in separate letters sent to the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday.
The affected agencies are the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). Their chief executives, Farouk Ahmed and Gbenga Komolafe, respectively, have both resigned from office.
Ahmed headed the midstream and downstream regulator, while Komolafe served as the chief executive of the upstream commission.
Both men were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari shortly after the Petroleum Industry Act came into force.
The development was disclosed in a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Further details on the nominees forwarded to the Senate are expected to be made public in due course.
