Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has criticised the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, accusing it of focusing national development efforts mainly on the southwest while leaving the northern region behind.
Kwankwaso made the remark on Thursday evening during the Stakeholders Dialogue on the twenty twenty five Constitutional Amendment held in Kano. His comments came amid reports that earlier discussions between him and the President about rejoining the ruling party may have reached a dead end.
The former governor of Kano State expressed concern that federal resources are being channelled heavily into projects in the southwest, while key areas in the north continue to deteriorate. He pointed to the poor condition of major roads across northern states as an example of this alleged imbalance.
Kwankwaso narrated his experience travelling by road from Abuja to Kano after his flight was rescheduled. He described the Abuja to Kaduna to Kano highway as terrible, adding that construction of the route began years ago at the start of the All Progressives Congress administration but has remained incomplete.
According to him, the pattern of federal spending shows a national budget that is moving in only one direction, with the northern region not receiving the attention it deserves.
