The Nigerian Air Force has clarified the circumstances surrounding the diversion of one of its C130 aircraft during a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025. According to the Air Force, the aircraft made a precautionary landing in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, after the crew detected a technical issue shortly after departing Lagos.
The Air Force explained that the decision to land at the nearest available airfield was strictly in line with global aviation safety procedures and routine operational protocols. The crew, it added, remained calm and professional throughout the process and landed the aircraft without incident.
Officials confirmed that all personnel on board are safe and have continued to receive warm and supportive treatment from the authorities in Burkina Faso.
The statement also noted that plans are already underway to continue the mission once the necessary assessments are completed. The Air Force expressed appreciation to its hosts for their cooperation and reassured Nigerians that it remains fully committed to safe operations, strict adherence to established procedures, and the protection of its personnel while carrying out its constitutional duties.
The update was issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters.
