About the Project:
This pioneering dissertation project investigates the use of illicit tactics in Nigerian elections—vote-buying, violence, fraud—and how courts have responded. We’re building a comprehensive, searchable database of Nigerian election petition judgments to expose patterns, strengthen accountability, and influence democratic reform.
Your Role
As a Research Assistant, you will:
- Analyze and code election petition judgments using a structured guide
- Identify key legal principles, decisions, and outcomes
- Source judgments and electoral documents from INEC and courts
- Transcribe interviews with lawyers, judges, and civil society leaders
- Contribute to cutting-edge legal and political analysis that matters
- Minimum Qualifications
- LL.B (required); background in social sciences is a plus
- Excellent legal reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical skills (we value thinkers, not crammers!)
- 2–3 years of post-degree work experience or substantial internship exposure
- Must have your own laptop and ability to work independently
- Preferred Attributes
- Interest or experience in academic research, governance, or public interest law
- Proven discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive data
- Representation from diverse Nigerian backgrounds is strongly encouraged
