In a groundbreaking move to revolutionize healthcare delivery in Anambra State, Engr. Barth Nwibe, Managing Director of SEGOFS Energy, has invested a remarkable ₦3 billion in the construction of a world-class, AI-backed diagnostic center in Awka. This project, in partnership with Apex Specialist Hospital Nigeria, promises to transform the medical landscape of the state, offering advanced diagnostic and healthcare services previously accessible only abroad.
The foundation-laying ceremony, held in Awka on Saturday, marked the collaboration between SEGOFS Energy, an upstream oil services company owned by Engr. Nwibe, and Apex Medical Systems, led by its founder, Prof. Uchenna Nwosu. The diagnostic center, which will be equipped with cutting-edge technology from GE Healthcare, aims to provide specialized services, including CT scans, digital X-rays, MRIs, and advanced laboratory testing.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Nwibe highlighted the project as a private-sector initiative aligned with Anambra’s long-standing “Think Home” philosophy, which encourages investment in the state to foster economic growth and create job opportunities.
“The diagnostic center will feature the first-ever GE Revolution Maxima CT scanner with 128-slice capability in Nigeria, alongside AI-based cardiac and neurology suites,” he said. “Our goal is to provide facilities that meet global standards, enabling Ndi Anambra and Nigerians to access advanced healthcare services locally.”
The new diagnostic center will complement the intensive care unit of the Apex Multi-Specialty Hospital, enabling it to handle critical conditions like stroke and cardiac arrest within hours.
Prof. Nwosu described the project as a leap forward for healthcare in Anambra, transitioning Apex Medical Systems from primary and secondary care to advanced tertiary healthcare services. He added that this partnership reflects Apex’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes, without prioritizing profit over service.
GE Healthcare, the project’s technical consultant, pledged to provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and comprehensive training for the center’s personnel, ensuring world-class standards in operations and patient care.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Hon. Dominic Okafor, Member of the House of Representatives representing Aguata Federal Constituency, as well as key executives from SEGOFS Energy and Apex Specialist Hospital.
