The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
Achimugu, a known associate of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was named in an EFCC statement released on Friday by the commission’s Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
Reports indicate that Achimugu is accused of secretly channeling funds to opposition leaders Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 elections. Daily Post reports that President Bola Tinubu was allegedly “furious and felt betrayed” after intelligence linked the funds to Governor Sanwo-Olu. The situation is said to have caused political tension, with concerns over its impact on Sanwo-Olu’s political future.
Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, dismissed the allegations, describing them as a “blatant lie from the pit of hell” and part of a smear campaign to serve Tinubu’s political interests.
Despite the denials, the EFCC officially declared Achimugu wanted on Friday.
“The public is hereby notified that AISHA SULAIMAN ACHIMUGU, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Criminal Conspiracy and Money Laundering,” the statement read.
The EFCC provided details on Achimugu, stating that she is 51 years old, hails from Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, and her last known address is 6C, Rudolf Close, Maitama, Abuja.
The commission urged anyone with information about her whereabouts to report to its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or Abuja.
