Tensions between the United States and Iran flared up again on Saturday, despite a recent ceasefire agreement.
The U.S. military carried out strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar stations. Iran called the attacks a clear violation of the truce that had stopped weeks of fighting.
In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they launched retaliatory strikes against U.S. positions in the Gulf region. They warned that any new American attacks would trigger an even stronger reaction.
The latest violence began after the U.S. accused Iran of attacking a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week. Iran has denied the claim. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway for global oil shipments.
The fighting also reached Bahrain, where officials said Iranian drones targeted the country. Bahrain condemned the action as an attempt to undermine regional peace efforts.
U.S. President Donald Trump called the reported Iranian ship attack “a foolish violation” of the ceasefire. Vice President JD Vance warned that further violence from Iran would be met with force.
Despite the clashes, oil prices stayed relatively calm as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continued.
In a separate development, Israel and Lebanon signed a U.S.-brokered agreement on Friday aimed at bringing calm to their shared border.
The deal allows Lebanese troops to gradually take control of certain areas now held by Israel. It also sets out steps to disarm Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the agreement as an important first step toward lasting peace. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a strategic win against Iran. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said it would help displaced people return home under Lebanese control.
However, Hezbollah supporters protested in Beirut, saying the deal weakens broader regional peace talks.
Both sides are still negotiating toward a longer-term settlement, but the new clashes in the Gulf have raised fears of wider instability.
