The dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidacy for Imo North Senatorial District remains unresolved, with Senator Ifeanyi Ararume refusing to concede and taking the matter to court.
Ararume, a two-time former senator for the Okigwe Zone, has sued Senator Patrick Ndubueze over what he describes as his unlawful substitution as the party’s candidate. The case is before Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Abuja under Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1569/2026.
The controversy stems from the APC primaries. While the state chapter of the party announced Ndubueze as the winner, conflicting reports circulated that Ararume had prevailed. The situation escalated when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal listed Ndubueze as the APC candidate for the zone.
In response to Ararume’s suit, the court ordered all parties to refrain from any action that could prejudice the outcome of the case. Justice Ibrahim specifically directed INEC not to take steps that might affect the subject matter of the litigation.
The matter has been adjourned to Monday, August 10, for further hearing. The judge also summoned the APC National Legal Adviser to appear, following a dispute over the party’s legal representation after two different sets of lawyers presented conflicting letters claiming to act for the APC.
