The Imo State Police Command has arrested two people in connection with the murder of Police Inspector Henry Effiong, who was attached to the residence of the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Rex Anunobi.
The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Olivia Patrick and 25-year-old ThankGod Maurice, were picked up at the scene shortly after the incident was reported, according to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye.
State Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso ordered a full investigation. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department and the Divisional Police Officer of New Owerri Division visited the scene, carried out examinations and recovered exhibits.
The inspector’s body has been deposited in a mortuary. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department for further probe, while police continue efforts to arrest other suspects still at large.
Bosso directed investigators to ensure anyone found responsible is prosecuted. He expressed condolences to the late officer’s family and said the command remains committed to justice. The police also assured residents that the situation is under control and urged the public to remain vigilant and share any useful information.
