The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday nullified Governor Hope Uzodinma’s emergence as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Imo West senatorial election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu held that evidence before the court showed Uzodinma was not the valid winner of the APC primary conducted in the senatorial zone on May 18, which the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored.
The court found that former Imo State governor Senator Rochas Okorocha secured the highest number of votes at the primary and therefore ought to have been the party’s nominee.
Justice Egwuatu ordered INEC to immediately recognise Okorocha and publish his name as the authentic APC candidate for the poll. The court also barred Uzodinma from presenting himself as the party’s candidate for the election.
