The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has announced a large-scale clean-up and enforcement exercise along the Apapa and Tin Can Port corridors in Lagos, scheduled for May 14 and 15, 2026.
The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to improve trade facilitation, ease cargo movement, and enhance operational efficiency at Nigeria’s busiest seaports.
Speaking on the development, PEBEC Director-General, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, said the exercise is aimed at restoring order and addressing persistent issues that have negatively affected port operations and business activities in the area.
The operation will target major challenges including severe traffic congestion, illegal checkpoints, indiscriminate parking of trucks, environmental pollution, and other unregulated activities that continue to disrupt the smooth movement of goods.
According to PEBEC, improving traffic flow within the port corridors will help reduce delays experienced by importers, exporters, and logistics operators, while also lowering the cost of doing business and boosting trade efficiency.
The exercise will also focus on environmental sanitation and public safety through the removal of illegal structures and operational obstructions around the ports.
To ensure effective implementation, several agencies and stakeholders are expected to participate in the operation, including the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, port terminal operators, unions, and other regulatory bodies.
The clean-up exercise is expected to improve port management, enhance cargo handling efficiency, and create a safer and more business-friendly environment within the Apapa and Tin Can Port corridors.
