In a swift and coordinated security operation, Ondo State Police Command has rescued 26-year-old Ogechi John barely hours after she was abducted at gunpoint by suspected kidnappers in Owo.
The dramatic rescue, which also led to the arrest of four suspects, highlights the growing effectiveness of joint security efforts in the state as authorities intensify the manhunt for a fleeing herbalist believed to be connected to the crime.
According to police accounts, the abduction occurred on Monday when gunmen stormed Gozako Filling Station along the Emure–Akure Expressway in an ash-coloured, unregistered Toyota Camry. They forcibly seized Miss John before speeding off into the unknown.
Responding with commendable urgency, the police command, in collaboration with Amotekun operatives, local hunters, and vigilante groups, immediately sealed strategic entry and exit points across Owo and neighbouring communities. Tactical teams were deployed to scour surrounding bushes and escape routes.
The breakthrough came when the suspected getaway vehicle was discovered abandoned in a bush at Ojana, Owo. Acting on fresh intelligence generated during the operation, security forces arrested four suspects: Friday Shola, 27; Friday Monday, 21; Osho Joseph, 24; and Lawal Mariam.
Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi confirmed that the suspects were found in possession of a lady’s motorcycle suspected to be linked to the abduction.
“During preliminary interrogation, one of the suspects revealed that the abandoned Toyota Camry had been handed over to a herbalist, Lawal Lucky, of Idimepe Street, Owo, who is now at large,” Abayomi stated.
He added that sustained pressure and intelligence-led efforts culminated in the safe rescue of the victim, who is currently receiving necessary support and care while investigations continue.
The Ondo State Police Command has vowed to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the remaining suspects and all accomplices.
Abayomi reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to the safety of residents, assuring the public that criminal elements would find no hiding place in the state.
