Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has voiced deep frustration over escalating insecurity and alleged political thuggery in parts of the state, directly accusing the Commissioner of Police of failing to collaborate with other security agencies.
In strongly worded remarks, Governor Adeleke described the situation as intolerable and said repeated breakdowns in coordination among security forces were allowing violence to fester.
“I am very, very sad. The Commissioner of Police in Osun State is not cooperating,” Adeleke said. “That’s why we keep having problems. Other agencies are trying, but he in particular, I don’t know what is his problem.”
The governor’s outburst follows fresh reports of a violent confrontation involving suspected political actors, including claims of a shootout with armed groups. Adeleke specifically pointed fingers at “the thugs of the APC in Osun,” whom he referred to as “the Assyrians,” alleging they initiated shooting during the unrest.
He appealed for restraint among residents while warning against retaliatory killings. “I’m telling my people to calm down. We don’t want to have emergency job or any chaos and they will start killing,” he said.
Despite his administration’s efforts to maintain peace, the governor said persistent provocation continued to undermine stability. “I’ve tried my best to make sure Osun is calm and there’s no problem. But they are pushing. They keep pushing, killing people.”
Adeleke disclosed that he had already escalated the matter to the highest levels of Nigeria’s security architecture. “As I’m talking to you, I’ve called the GOC, I’ve called the Chief of Army Staff, I’ve reported to the IG, I’ve done everything,” he stated, adding that he would soon address the public again in a fresh press conference.
