Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, rescued 48 civilians on Sunday after responding to a terrorist attack on Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer, said the operation followed a distress call reporting that a large group of terrorists on about 40 motorcycles had invaded the community in the early hours of 26 July 2026. The attackers rounded up residents with the aim of taking them into the bush while others waited on the outskirts with the motorcycles.
Troops from Sector 2 arrived promptly and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle. The bandits abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding bush. All 48 abducted residents were freed.
One civilian was killed during the attack and two others suffered gunshot wounds. The injured were taken to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda for treatment.
After the rescue, troops conducted aggressive patrols to secure the area and prevent further attacks. The Theatre Command praised the troops for their professionalism and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the North West. Residents were urged to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
