The University of Calabar has directed 214 LLB II students who were not originally admitted into the Faculty of Law to return immediately to their former departments.
The decision was reached on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, during a meeting involving the university management, the Law Faculty leadership, the affected LLB II class, and the president and vice president of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria, University of Calabar Chapter (LAWSAN-UCC).
According to a press statement from the LAWSAN-UCC executive council, Vice-Chancellor Professor Offiong Offiong disclosed that of the 435 students currently in the LLB II class, only 221 were officially admitted into the Faculty of Law. The remaining students had transferred from other programmes within the university.
The association warned that students who entered the faculty through other departments would not be eligible to proceed to the Nigerian Law School if they remained under their current admission status.
As an immediate step, the university has temporarily locked the portals of the 214 affected students to facilitate their transfer back to their original departments.
To ease the impact, management announced two relief measures: a full refund of school fees paid for the 2025/2026 academic session, and free tuition for the 2026/2027 session in their original departments, to be covered by the university.
LAWSAN-UCC said the statement was issued to keep faculty members informed of the decisions. The association acknowledged the emotional toll of the development and urged students to remain calm, supportive and respectful while the process continues.
