South Africa’s Consul-General in Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, has assured Nigerians that the country is safe for tourism, business and other visits, dismissing social media claims that have raised concerns among prospective travellers.
Speaking in an interview on Nigeria Info FM, Moroe said South Africa remains open and rejected reports that its missions in Nigeria had stopped issuing visas to Nigerians.
“I just want to give reassurance that South Africa is open for business, South Africa is open for tourism, and South Africa is open for any other form of visit,” he said. He described as untrue the suggestion that visas are no longer available.
Moroe urged intending visitors to secure the necessary visa before travel and to comply with South African immigration laws. He also advised them to familiarise themselves with local laws, know their rights, and stay aware of their surroundings, including the location of law enforcement agencies.
He noted that visa applications from Nigerians have nearly doubled, signalling sustained interest in travel to the country. “We are quite comfortable. And we have no doubt that a lot of Nigerians who still want to visit South Africa, for whatever reason, can still go there,” he added.
The Consul-General stressed that travellers should act as good ambassadors of their country while in South Africa.
