Sokoto State Police Command has recorded significant gains against kidnapping and violent crime, arresting a suspected serial kidnapper and rescuing a 10-year-old boy who was found stuffed inside a sack.
In the first operation, Anti-Kidnapping Unit officers, acting on intelligence, raided a hideout in Tudun Doki Village, Gwadabawa Local Government Area, at about 2:00 pm on August 8. They arrested Abdullahi Buba, popularly known as “Osho.” Police said preliminary interrogation linked him to a criminal syndicate involved in multiple kidnappings and the illegal collection of levies from residents in Gwadabawa, Kware and Gada local government areas. Buba is currently cooperating with investigators and has provided information that could lead to the arrest of other gang members still at large. Efforts to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the network are ongoing.
In a separate incident, detectives from Gidan Madi Police Division in Tangaza Local Government Area rescued 10-year-old Muhammad Sufiyanu on the night of August 11. The boy’s uncle, Sani Ibrahim of Gidan Madi Town, reported him missing at about 8:00 pm after he failed to return home from the afternoon. Officers and the complainant conducted surveillance in the area. At around 11:00 pm they intercepted two men travelling on a motorcycle while carrying a suspiciously concealed sack.
The suspects fled on foot when challenged, abandoning the sack. Inside, officers found the missing boy, who was alive and responsive. He was taken to Gidan Madi General Hospital for medical attention and later discharged.
According to the police, the child told investigators that one of the suspects lured him into a room, injected him with a sedative and forced him into the sack before attempting to transport him away. One of the suspects has been arrested and has confessed to the abduction. Crime Scene Investigators have examined the location linked to the incident as inquiries continue to identify any other persons involved.
Commissioner of Police Hayatu Hassan Shaffa praised the officers for their courage and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing to protect lives and property, warning criminals that they would be pursued wherever they hide. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and share timely information with security agencies.
