The Adamawa State Police Command has secured the conviction of three men for housebreaking, theft and receiving stolen property.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman Yahaya-Nguroje said the case arose from a complaint by Ahmad Aliyu of Rumde Ward, Jimeta, in Yola North Local Government Area. Aliyu reported that John Ishaya broke into his home at about 3 a.m. and stole a laptop, a power bank and two pairs of jumpers valued at ₦300,000.
Investigation showed that Muhammadu Hassan of Yelwa Ward, Jimeta, helped conceal the items and sold them to Abdul’Aziz Hassan, also of Rumde Ward.
The three defendants were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 3 in Yola, where they pleaded guilty.
The court sentenced Ishaya to three years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and seven years for theft in a dwelling house, with the sentences to run concurrently. Muhammadu Hassan and Abdul’Aziz Hassan each received seven years without the option of a fine for concealment and receiving stolen property, respectively.
Commissioner of Police Kabir Umar-Hassan commended the judiciary for the conviction and urged residents to report suspicious activities to the police to help prevent crime in the state.
