Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that directives have been issued for security agents to withdraw from polling units and collation centres across the state, warning that the move could endanger voters and electoral officials.
In a post on X on Saturday night, Adeleke said he had been “reliably informed” that “some unscrupulous persons” gave the order. He claimed the withdrawal would leave innocent voters, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and other personnel exposed to “grave danger from rampaging APC thugs.”
The governor, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene immediately. He urged the President to direct the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to halt the alleged withdrawal, adding that the security chiefs “should not allow desperate politicians truncate Osun election.”
Adeleke had earlier appealed to Tinubu to caution security agencies deployed for the governorship election as INEC continued the collation of results. He expressed concern over reports of attempts to hijack or disrupt collation centres by “desperate and rejected politicians” and asked the President to reaffirm his commitment to ensuring that votes cast by Osun residents are counted and reflected in the final outcome.
The claims come amid ongoing collation of results from the Osun governorship election.
