The Osun State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved a constitutional amendment bill supporting the creation of state police.
Lawmakers passed the measure during plenary after Majority Leader Babajide Kofoworola moved a motion for its consideration. The motion was seconded by Tajudeen Adeyemi.
Speaker Adewale Egbedun directed that the approved amendment be forwarded to the National Assembly.
The National Assembly passed the State Police Creation amendment bill on June 24, 2026, and transmitted it to the 36 state houses of assembly for concurrence.
Once a majority of the states approve the bill, it returns to the National Assembly for final passage before being sent to President Bola Tinubu for assent.
The process follows the president’s directives on establishing state police.
