A Lagos businessman has alleged that court officials executed a judgment against his service-apartment property in Ikorodu even though the address and parties named in the court documents did not match his land or building.
Oladimeji Ogunfolaju, Chief Executive Officer of Lakers County, said a team led by a court sheriff and accompanied by two policemen arrived at his property in Ibelefun, Amojo Village, along Ibeshe Road, Ikorodu, on 7 October 2026. According to him, the officials removed beds, chairs, televisions, refrigerators, fans and fittings from two of the five apartments and placed the items outside the building.
Ogunfolaju stated that the officials presented a judgment delivered in May 2025 by Justice A.F. Pokanu of the High Court of Lagos State, Ikorodu Judicial Division. The suit, filed in 2024 by Omoregie Daniel Osagie against “Persons Unknown,” concerned a claim of ownership of land. Ogunfolaju said he was not named as a party and had not been served with any court processes.
He further stated that the address cited in the judgment was Block 16, Plot 1, Ikorodu GRA II, around Ebute Ipakodo, while his property is located in Ibelefun, Amojo Village, along Ibeshe Road. He also referred to an interlocutory injunction affecting the land on which his building stands.
Ogunfolaju said he presented documents supporting his claim to the land, which he acquired through Mikail Ayeni, attorney for members of the family of the late Otunba T.O.S. Benson. Despite his objections, the officials proceeded with the removal of items. He alleged that the team assaulted his security guard when the guard attempted to close the gate on his instruction, an incident he said was captured on closed-circuit television. The officials later directed him to visit the Deputy Sheriff’s office in Ikeja.
The removal of items disrupted operations at the service apartments, embarrassed guests and led Ogunfolaju to compensate affected customers.
Mikail Ayeni, who holds a power of attorney from members of the Benson family, supported Ogunfolaju’s account of a mismatch in the property description. Ayeni said the land forms part of an approximately 55-acre property belonging to the late Benson that has faced encroachment since the latter’s death in 2008. He stated that the property previously had about 350 foundations and 10 uncompleted buildings.
Ayeni said that when Ogunfolaju contacted him during the incident, he spoke with the sheriff and pointed out that the property was not in GRA II. According to Ayeni, the sheriff replied that he was relying on a pointer. Ayeni described the discrepancy as a miscarriage of justice and said the family is preparing to file processes seeking to set aside the judgment. He questioned how a person occupying and using the property could remain unidentified in the proceedings.
As of the latest available reports, the matter remains at the stage of the businessman’s complaint and the family’s stated intention to challenge the judgment. No independent confirmation of the exact court records or official response from the Lagos State High Court or the sheriff’s office has been publicly detailed beyond the accounts given by Ogunfolaju and Ayeni.
