Former Imo State governor and senator, Rochas Okorocha, has rejected reports that a magistrate court issued a bench warrant for his arrest over alleged forgery.
In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha described the claim as false and challenged anyone in possession of the alleged warrant to publish the document within 48 hours.
According to the statement, no court, whether a senior magistrate court or the High Court has ordered or issued any bench warrant for his arrest. Okorocha noted that the circulating report claimed the warrant was issued on October 9 following a petition dated October 8. He questioned how investigations and court processes could have been completed within a single day.
The statement further observed inconsistencies in the reported dates. It said the report claimed the bench warrant was issued on September 9, 2026, while the petitions attributed to the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner were dated October 8, 2026, with case number CR/M/084/2026. Okorocha’s camp argued that this sequence was impossible, as the court order could not predate the petitions and the filing of the case.
The former governor also clarified the content of the petitions. He stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Ibejiako, did not write any petition against him or request that he be investigated. Nor, according to the statement, did the commissioner indict him.
Instead, the petitions asked the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate a document in circulation that portrayed Okorocha as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Imo West Senatorial District. The petitions were dated Thursday, October 8, 2026. Okorocha’s team asked whether it was realistic for both the DSS and the police to have concluded investigations by Friday, October 9, when the arrest-order story began circulating. The answer, the statement said, is no.
Okorocha urged the public to disregard the report and added that what the APC needs at this time is peace.
