President Bola Tinubu on Saturday urged Nigerian youths to collect their Permanent Voter Cards and take part in the 2027 general elections, saying the outcome will directly determine their future.
Speaking at the Rainbow Coalition presidential campaign rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Tinubu told young people the poll was not about his personal ambition.
“To the youth of Nigeria, I’m looking at you. This election is about you. It’s not about me. Your future depends on this election,” he said.
He appealed to those yet to collect their PVCs to do so, describing the card as the instrument through which citizens choose the country’s leadership.
“It is left for you to use the weapon you have. And that weapon is the PVC. If you have not collected yours, please go ahead and collect it. Please. I beg you. I take God, beg you,” Tinubu said.
The president also pointed to economic progress as a path out of poverty for young Nigerians. He said his administration was working to expand prosperity and was clearing unpaid pensions and gratuities left by previous governments, amounting to billions and trillions of naira.
“The people that governed before left unpaid pensions and gratuity in billions and trillions of naira. That is being cleared. So that every family is included. We are sharing prosperity already,” he said.
Tinubu listed retired engineers, welders and teachers among those already receiving their payments.
