The Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2025 Anambra governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo made his declaration on Friday at his country home in Ire village, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, stating that his decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with stakeholders.
In his speech, Okonkwo emphasized that Anambra is a land of limitless potential, home to industrious entrepreneurs and resilient people. However, he lamented that the state has not lived up to its full promise due to poor governance.
“The pains and horror of insecurity have left our people living in the bondage of fear. People earnestly cry for real security and progress,” he said
Okonkwo stressed that Anambra deserves better leadership and pledged to run a people-centered administration if elected.
“With a deep sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment to the future of our dear Anambra State, today I declare my intention to contest the forthcoming governorship election.”
“I believe Anambra deserves the best. Together, we can build a state that truly works for everyone; a state where governance is about service to the people and not to self.”
Okonkwo urged Anambra residents to support his vision, emphasizing that transforming the state requires collective effort.
“I cannot do it alone. I need your support. Together, we can make Anambra a shining example of excellence and good governance.”
He further pledged to prioritize the welfare of youths, women, and vulnerable populations while ensuring Anambra remains prosperous, secure, and globally competitive.
Declaring his confidence in the APC platform, Okonkwo affirmed his commitment to the party’s vision and promised to work with all stakeholders to achieve a better Anambra.
