Former Anambra governorship aspirant, Valentine Ozigbo, has officially resigned from the Labour Party (LP).
Ozigbo, who remains committed to his gubernatorial ambition, stated that his decision to leave the party aligns with his broader vision for the state. While he did not disclose his next political move, speculations suggest he may be heading to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to further his aspirations.
In a statement he personally signed, the former CEO of Transnational Corporation (Transcorp) confirmed that he tendered his resignation at a State Executive Committee meeting of the Labour Party in Awka.
He said:
“A few moments ago, at a State Executive Committee meeting of the Labour Party in Awka, I formally submitted my resignation letter to my ward’s Chairman.
“Before this, His Excellency Peter Obi was duly informed of my decision as a mark of my deep respect for his leadership and the principles we have shared on this journey. I also notified the National Chairman.
“At every defining moment in history, our choices shape the future we dream of. Today, as I take a new step in my journey of service, I do so with unshakable resolve, a clear vision, and the firm belief that Anambra’s best days are ahead.
“I joined politics not for personal ambition but because I believe in the boundless potential of our people. I believe in compassionate leadership that inspires and truly serves. That mission remains unchanged it has only grown stronger.
“Recent events have made one thing clear: the time has come for us to build something new, something bold, something that speaks to the hopes and aspirations of every Anambra son and daughter.
“After deep reflection and broad consultations, I have chosen a different path, one that is not about party lines, but about our people, about progress, and about a movement that will bring real transformation to our great state.”
Ozigbo, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the last Anambra governorship election, joined the Labour Party in 2022 alongside Peter Obi. However, sources indicate that his influence within the party has waned, with concerns that Obi, as LP’s national leader, may not support his candidacy in the next election.
