A former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Moh Lukman, has warned that opposition leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Kayode Fayemi would be worse leaders than former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari, and the current President, Bola Tinubu.
Lukman made this assertion in a statement addressing recent political developments, criticizing the opposition figures for prioritizing personal ambitions over meaningful democratic reforms.
He argued that their push to form a new opposition coalition is driven by self-interest rather than a genuine commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
“The worrying reality is that many of these opposition and displaced politicians with ambitions are highly complicit and have little or no evidential credentials of emerging as better political leaders,” Lukman stated.
He further accused them of failing to learn from past mistakes, adding that their track records in governance do not inspire confidence. According to him, Nigeria could end up with another ineffective leader in 2027 if political institutions are not reformed.
Lukman cautioned that forming a coalition merely to unseat Tinubu without addressing key governance issues would be counterproductive.
He also echoed Peter Obi’s stance that opposition unity should not be about power for its own sake but should focus on real reforms that benefit Nigerians.
“Even if opposition and displaced politicians unite to defeat APC and President Tinubu in 2027, the country may end up with another bad, if not worse, leader,” he warned.
