Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, attributing their hardship to the administration’s policies.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos on Friday, George warned that widespread hunger and frustration among citizens must not be ignored.
“Nigerians are hungry and angry. As the Commander-in-Chief and the Chief Driver of the economy, it is time for Tinubu to act decisively to address the economic hardship in the country,” he said.
George emphasized that economic hardship does not discriminate along party lines.
“There is no separate market for APC and PDP members. Every Nigerian is affected by these policies. President Tinubu must pause and reflect: Are the people truly benefiting from my administration’s policies?”
Comparing economic indicators before and after Tinubu took office, George highlighted rising costs and a declining currency.
“When he assumed office in 2023, a litre of petrol was less than N200, and the exchange rate was below N800 per dollar. What do we have today? Nigerians deserve a clear and immediate response from the president on the direction of his economic policies.”
George also raised concerns about Nigeria’s stability amid political upheavals in neighboring Francophone countries, where tensions with France have escalated.
“With the instability surrounding us and the tensions with France, are we prepared to remain strong and stable as a nation? We must start this conversation now—because a stitch in time saves nine.”
His remarks add to growing calls for the Tinubu administration to implement urgent reforms that ease economic hardship and improve the well-being of Nigerians.
