Registered voters in Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, Enugu State, have initiated the process to recall their House of Representatives member, Hon. Martins Oke.
According to a petition dated March 27, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the constituents cited non-performance as a key reason for the move. The petition was submitted by Mr. Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba, alongside Mr. Clinton Ogbonna, Mr. Sabinus Amah, and Mr. Stephen Okenwa.
The petitioners accused Oke, who is currently serving his third term, of failing to sponsor any significant bills or motions.
“There are no visible constituency projects to his name. We don’t see or hear him during National Assembly sittings. He contributes nothing to local, state, or national discourse. He isn’t representing us at all,” they alleged.
They further claimed that Oke was not duly elected by the constituents but was imposed on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “against the wishes of the party.”
According to them, “He lost the general election by a wide margin, but the Appeal Court declared him the winner based on technicalities. We want to take back our mandate that he snatched through the courts.”
The petitioners also accused the lawmaker of neglecting his constituency, stating that he lacks a constituency office, has never held a town hall meeting, and remains disconnected from the people.
“We don’t see him at home, we don’t see him on TV, and we don’t see him in the National Assembly sessions. He has shown no commitment to the welfare of his constituents or the pressing issues affecting Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency,” they said.
The petitioners claim to have met the constitutional requirement for a recall, stating that at least 50% of registered voters in the constituency signed the petition.
