The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reaffirmed its solidarity with the family of Leah Sharibu, who was abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on February 19, 2018.
In a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of CAN, the association sympathized with Leah’s family and acknowledged the pain of her prolonged captivity.
“Leah’s courage and steadfast faith in the face of adversity remain a beacon of hope and inspiration. Her captivity highlights the urgent need to address insecurity and uphold the fundamental right to freedom of religion,” CAN stated.
CAN urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure Leah’s release and that of others still held captive.
“No sacrifice is too great to bring our daughter home. We also call on the international community to support this cause,” the statement added.
The association encouraged Nigerians, particularly Christians, to unite in prayers and advocacy for Leah and national peace.
“Let us transcend denominational lines and work as one body to demand justice. We remain hopeful for Leah’s safe return and assure her family of our unwavering support.”
CAN also urged security agencies and government officials to act decisively to combat insecurity and restore peace in Nigeria.
“We will continue to speak for the voiceless and champion the cause of peace and unity. May God grant us the strength to see this through. God bless Nigeria.”
