A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday struck out a cybercrime case against Sanusi Dankaka, who was accused of threatening to publish nude videos and photographs of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.
Justice Salim Ibrahim dismissed the matter after the prosecution applied to withdraw the charge. Defence counsel Kauna Penzin raised no objection. The judge delivered a short ruling ending the case.
Dankaka had been arraigned on a two-count charge filed by the Department of State Services. The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026 and dated October 22, alleged that in October 2026 he used his Facebook page “Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya” to claim he possessed nude videos and photographs of the governor and threatened to release them to the public.
Prosecutors said the first count involved an attempt to send out the malicious publication, contrary to Section 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, and punishable under Section 24(1). The second count alleged that he actually sent out the publication, which he knew to be false, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, insult and injury to the governor’s reputation, also contrary to Section 24(1) of the same Act.
Dankaka had pleaded not guilty. The court had adjourned the case to December 7 for the start of trial.
It was later relisted as the last matter on Tuesday’s cause list, allowing the prosecution to seek withdrawal.
