The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, labeling him a self-serving politician consumed by ego and personal grievances.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party accused El-Rufai of being driven by untamed emotions and a vengeful desire to “collapse the system.”
Morka’s remarks were in response to El-Rufai’s recent interviews, in which he criticized the APC and announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The former governor claimed that the APC had strayed from its founding principles, prompting his switch to SDP, where he called on opposition leaders to join him.
Dismissing El-Rufai’s call, Morka stated:
“El-Rufai’s invitation for opposition members to join him in the SDP is nothing more than an appeal to drink from a chalice poisoned by selfishness, vengeance, and delusions of grandeur.”
He further accused El-Rufai of hypocrisy, recalling a previous viral video where the former governor condemned politicians who prioritize personal interests over public service.
“In that video, El-Rufai lamented that politicians were consumed by self-interest and willing to ‘collapse the system’ if they didn’t get what they wanted. Today, he embodies the very thing he once criticized.”
Morka argued that El-Rufai’s dissatisfaction stemmed from his failed bid for a ministerial position under President Bola Tinubu, dismissing his claims of ideological differences as a mere cover for personal grievances.
“El-Rufai is not leaving on principle; he is nursing a bruised ego. His claim that the APC has deviated from its founding values is nothing but a smokescreen. Our party remains as committed to its ideals as ever—his allegations exist only in his imagination.”
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to its foundational principles, insisting that El-Rufai’s defection was motivated by personal disappointment rather than genuine ideological concerns.
