The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigerian government of attempting to turn the Southeast into a terrorist stronghold.
Condemning the attack on a church and the people of Amegu village in Nkalaha, Isielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, IPOB vowed to resist what it described as a demonic agenda against the region.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB alleged that the Nigerian government was behind the attacks in a bid to blackmail the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
“The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide, with heavy hearts, condemn the Nigerian government and its sponsored terrorist attack on the church and people of Amegu village in Nkalaha, Isielu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, which led to the loss of over 50 lives, the statement read in part.
Powerful further accused the government of deliberately orchestrating violence to justify crackdowns on IPOB and ESN.
“Why is the Nigerian government sponsoring terrorists to invade and murder innocent Biafrans just to blackmail IPOB and ESN? The government wants to turn the Southeast into another terrorist hub, but we must resist such a demonic agenda.
The group also criticized Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, accusing him of failing to protect his people.
“Dave Umahi, his predecessor, did what he could to safeguard Ebonyi, but we are concerned about Nwifuru’s weakness in governance. It is unfortunate that both the Nigerian government and the Ebonyi State Governor, who should be protecting lives and property, are instead playing politics with the security of Ndigbo, IPOB stated.
IPOB also condemned the swift response of the Ebonyi State Police Command, which blamed the attack on the group without conducting an investigation.
“Within an hour of the terrorist attacks at the Chosen Church and communities in Ebonyi, the Ebonyi State Police PPRO, Mr. Ukadu, accused IPOB of being responsible for the mass murder without any form of inquiry, Powerful alleged.
The group questioned the reluctance of security agencies to investigate the killings, suggesting that their silence indicated complicity.
“The failure of the Nigerian government and its police to properly investigate this attack, which led to the deaths of over 50 people, raises serious concerns. Why is the Nigerian Police unwilling to call a spade a spade and acknowledge the real perpetrators?
IPOB insisted that the speed with which the attack was attributed to them suggested a premeditated plot, claiming that both the Nigerian government and Ebonyi State officials had prior intelligence on the incident.
This quick attempt to pin the attack on IPOB confirms that it was well-planned, with the full knowledge of both the Nigerian government and the Ebonyi State Governor, the statement concluded.
