Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has dismissed the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as nothing more than a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Galadima argued that the SDP is not an independent political force but rather an offshoot of the ruling APC.
His remarks come in the wake of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s recent defection from the APC to the SDP. El-Rufai has been rallying key political figures to join the SDP in a bid to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Before his resignation, El-Rufai had grown increasingly critical of the APC-led administration, citing ideological differences as a key reason for his departure.
However, Galadima remains unconvinced about the SDP’s credibility as an opposition party.
“The SDP is simply a factionalized branch of the APC. How many non-APC members have defected to the SDP?” he questioned.
He further accused the APC of working to weaken opposition parties, emphasizing that the NNPP will not compromise its principles for political alliances.
“The APC’s strategy is to decimate the opposition. We must stand on principles, even if it means standing alone. The NNPP is a party of integrity and will not enter into coalitions just for the sake of it,” Galadima stated.
