The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on residents of the South-East to engage in large-scale farming, assuring them of protection from the Eastern Security Network (ESN) during the farming season.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB emphasized the importance of agriculture in ensuring food security and reducing dependence on external sources.
“The global family and movement of IPOB remind Biafrans, supporters, and admirers of Biafra’s freedom that a new farming season has arrived,” the statement read.
IPOB highlighted its Agricultural Revolution Project, which was launched last year under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Through this initiative, the group provided seedlings to farmers across Biafra Land, leading to increased food production and lower food prices in the region. The group also noted that crops traditionally grown in northern Nigeria, such as tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, millet, and beans, thrived in the South-East during the last farming season.
“This year, we will once again support select farmers to boost their production beyond last year’s levels. The Agric Revolution initiative is one of IPOB’s key projects to guarantee food security in Igbo Land,” the statement continued.
IPOB accused the Nigerian government of neglecting South-East farmers while allegedly supporting northern farmers and foreign agricultural producers. The group also claimed that Fulani herdsmen were being used to destabilize farming activities in the region.
To counter these challenges, IPOB called on Igbo governors, philanthropists, community leaders, and religious figures to support farmers by providing essential farming tools, fertilizers, and other resources rather than distributing imported food products.
“We will recognize and commend those who heed this call to return to farming. IPOB and ESN will not only provide seedlings and financial aid to selected farmers but will also ensure their safety from Fulani terrorists,” the group assured.
