Liverpool were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in a breathless 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield, as debutant Víctor Muñoz crashed home a late equaliser to rescue a point for Andoni Iraola’s side.
Forest struck first against the run of early nerves. In the 24th minute Dan Ndoye finished a lightning counter-attack, exposing Liverpool’s tentative start and silencing the home crowd. The Reds thought they had responded when Florian Wirtz found the net, only for the assistant’s flag to deny him for offside.
Iraola’s men finally levelled on the hour. Cody Gakpo’s inviting cross was met by Alexander Isak, who steered the ball home to restore parity. The relief proved short-lived. Ten minutes later Alisson brought down Neco Williams in the box and Morgan Gibbs-White coolly converted the penalty to put Forest back in front.
Anfield roared its team forward in the closing stages. With eight minutes remaining Muñoz produced a moment of pure quality on his full debut, thumping a spectacular strike that cannoned in off the crossbar to secure a hard-earned 2-2 draw.
The result leaves Liverpool still searching for their first Premier League win of the Iraola era after two matches, while Forest continue their own quest for a first victory of the campaign.
