The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured Nigerians that there is no cause for panic despite the country’s current economic challenges, emphasizing that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are designed for long-term national progress.
Wike made this statement on Wednesday while leading a delegation of former G5 Governors on a condolence visit to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State following the death of his elder brother, Sunday Makinde.
Among those in the delegation were former Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), as well as Senators Sandy Onor, Philip Aduda, Olaka Nwogu, Mao Ohuabunwa, and Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche. The team was received at Governor Makinde’s residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan.
Speaking on the nation’s economic situation, Wike urged Nigerians to remain patient, reminding them of the difficult state of the country before Tinubu’s administration took over.
“I have always said that people should be patient. This country was in a difficult state a few years ago. Nigerians tend to forget how bad things were and the efforts being made to fix them.
“The policies introduced by Mr. President may cause some temporary discomfort, but they are necessary steps toward achieving long-term stability and economic growth. By the end of the day, will we achieve our goals? Yes. That is the current reality”.
Wike reassured the public that Tinubu’s administration means well for the country, stating that the challenges being faced today are part of the process of rebuilding the economy and ensuring a better future.
“Nobody should panic. Mr. President is committed to making things better, and Nigerians should remain hopeful for what lies ahead,” he added.
On the purpose of their visit, Wike said it was important to stand by Governor Makinde during his time of grief.
“We came to pay a condolence visit to our friend and brother, Governor Seyi Makinde. As members of the G5 Governors Forum, we have a strong bond built on the principles of equity and fairness.
“The passing of his elder brother is a loss that affects all of us. We know how close they were, and it was only right that we came to sympathize with him and his family during this difficult time.”
Wike expressed hope that Makinde’s late brother would find eternal rest, praying for God’s strength and comfort for the governor and his family.
