Renowned Nollywood actor and comedian, Okey Bakassi, has cautioned Nigerian politicians that their reckless actions could pave the way for a military coup.
Speaking in a recent conversation with fellow actor Ime Bishop Umoh, Bakassi expressed concern over the growing arrogance of political officeholders, accusing them of acting like “gods” and silencing critics.
He lamented that despite Nigeria being a democracy, citizens are increasingly facing intimidation and arrests for expressing dissent. His remarks were in response to the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
“Politicians now behave like they are untouchable. If you criticize them, they arrest you. This recklessness will continue until the military decides to take over,” Bakassi warned.
He further noted that when faced with a coup, the same politicians would call on civilians to defend democracy, despite currently disregarding their voices.
